About City Archives
The City of Coquitlam, through its Records Management Program administered by the Office of the City Clerk, preserves and makes accessible the records of enduring value of the City of Coquitlam and its predecessor corporate entities. Archival holdings include Council and committee minutes, bylaws, assessment rolls, and other records documenting the administrative and operational functions of the municipality since its incorporation in 1891.

Policies
The preservation of the city's archival records is governed by the City's Archives Management Policy, which was approved by Council on May 17, 2001. Along with the City's Records Management and Records Retention and Disposition policies, the Archives Policy provides the foundation for Coquitlam's records keeping practices and ensures the long-term preservation and accessibility of the City's permanently valuable records.

Descriptive Inventories
Archival material is made accessible through the production of various types of archival finding aids – descriptive tools produced by archivists to establish physical and/or intellectual control over archival records. Basic finding aids include accession records, descriptive databases, inventories, shelf and container lists, and indices.

Viewing
Archival records may be viewed upon request during regular City Hall business hours (8:00am-5:00pm). For specialized reference assistance, however, it is recommended that visitors first contact the Clerk's Office to make an appointment.
