The City recruits to fill positions on advisory and statutory committees and boards on an annual basis (typically in the fall) or when a vacancy arises. The City advertises vacancies on the City’s website as well as in the local paper inviting residents to submit an application form along with a resume by a specified deadline.
- Coquitlam City Council currently seeks volunteers from the public to serve on the following advisory bodies:
- Arts & Culture Advisory Committee
The Committee’s mandate is to provide a community perspective and advice to Council with respect to achieving the City’s Cultural Services Strategic Plan and accompanying implementation strategies to advance the cultural experiences for citizens. Members are appointed for a one-year term.
- Joint Family Court Youth Justice Committee
The Committee is established pursuant to Section 4 of the Provincial Court Act. The Committee focuses on family and youth justice issues and members participate to identify and raise awareness about family and youth justice issues, analyze legislation about these issues and provide opinions and recommendations to municipal councils, the Attorney General and other legislative bodies. Appointments are for a two-year term.
- Multiculturalism Advisory Committee
The Committee’s mandate is to provide a local perspective and advice to Council with respect to fostering awareness and understanding of the City’s multicultural population and diversity, address barriers relative to citizen involvement in the community, and provide input into the development and implementation of programs and services that enhance the culture of the community. Members are appointed for a one-year term.
- Sport Council
The Sport Council’s mandate is to advise Council on significant sport and recreation related issues, facility development priorities, supporting sport organizations, advocating and promoting the value and benefit of sport for all ages and abilities, and celebrate sport achievements and volunteer involvement and leadership in the community. Members are appointed for a one year term.
- Universal Access-Ability Advisory Committee
The Committee’s mandate is to continue to make the City more inclusive for existing and future residents with disabilities by addressing the physical, social and attitudinal barriers which impede their full participation in all aspects of City life. Members are appointed for a one-year term.

Eligibility and Criteria
- Applicants may not be employees of the City of Coquitlam.
- Applicants must live in the City of Coquitlam or be a representative of an organization operating in the City of Coquitlam.
- Applicants of all ages, genders, neighbourhoods, ethnic origins, income levels, sexual orientations and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply, in order to appoint representatives of the broader community, and to address issues of those communities.
- Applicants should be able to serve for the full term of the appointment.
Time Committment
Time requirements vary among the Committees (i.e. monthly, bi-monthly and quarterly). In general, Committees do not meet in August or December.
Remuneration
As these are volunteer positions successful candidates serve without remuneration.

How Appointments are Made
All appointments are made by City Council. Copies of all applications will be made available to the Mayor and to each member of the City Council. Appointments to Committees will be made by Council in February 2012.
All applicants will receive a letter from the City Clerk’s Office once the appointments have been made.
