Toilet Replacement Rebate Program

Are you flushing $100 down the toilet?

Bet you never thought your old toilet could earn you money today! The City of Coquitlam is offering a rebate of $100 for each toilet replaced with a new ultra low flow model up to a maximum of two toilets per residential dwelling.

Funding for this program is limited due to budget constraints so don't delay. Applications will be processed on a first come, first serve basis.

Ultra low flow toilets must be CSA or Warnock Hersey Certified as 6.0 litres per flush to be eligible for a rebate.

Why trade your old toilet in?

It is estimated that 3.1 million cubic metres of water is used annually for flushing residential toilets. This is about 14% of the City's total water use.

Many of the City's residences predate the B.C. Plumbing Codes requirements for water efficient fixtures that came into effect in 1993. A substantial number of dwellings are equipped with older toilets that require 20 liters of water per flush. New ultra low flow toilets require only 6.0 litres per flush. This is an opportunity to significantly reduce both water consumption and the sewage stream by retrofitting older toilets with modern ultra low flow models.

Bottom line: It costs money to treat the water coming in and out of your house so using less water per flush will both conserve our valuable resource and save us all money in the long run.

Who is eligible for this rebate?

The toilet must have been purchased and installed after July 29, 2004. The rebate is not retroactive.

The rebate is available to Flat Rate (residential) customers of the City's Water Utility. The rebate does not apply to Metered customers. This is because Metered customers directly benefit from reduced consumption as sewer and water rates paid are consumption based.

To qualify for a rebate the registered owner must provide proof of purchase and installation of an ultra low flow toilet and provide proof that the old toilet has been removed and destroyed.

Ultra low flow toilets must be CSA or Warnock Hersey Certified as 6.0 litres per flush to be eligible for a rebate.

If required, the homeowner must permit a representative of the City of Coquitlam access to the property to ensure compliance with the program.

Does my toilet qualify for the rebate program?

Your toilet qualifies if its flushing capacity is greater than 13 litres. You can usually find the flush volume stamp on the inside or back of tank, on the tank label, on the top of the bowl, or on the flush valve.
