Be Prepared at Work

Tips for Being Prepared At Work:

  • Carry an emergency "Grab and Go Bag " in your car or with you to work
  • Check for  hazards and find safe protective areas at work
  • Practice "Drop/Cover Hold drill"
  • Know your work's evacuation plan for both fires and earthquakes
  • Keep your Out of Province/Area Contact Number with you at all times
  • Ensure that you have a plan for your children, dependent individuals, and pets if you are unable to leave work in the wake of a disaster
     

Emergency Tips for Your Vehicle

  • Always pull vehicle over to a safe spot during the shaking of an  earthquake
  • Protect yourself during the earthquake and follow instructions on what to do if you are in your car during an earthquake
  • Always keep your fuel at least ¼ tank full
  • Always carry an emergency "Grab and Go Bag" in your vehicle
  • If power-lines should fall on your vehicle stay in the car and await for assistance

Extra items to keep in your car depending on the season:

  • fire extinguisher
  • sand, salt, kitty litter or traction mats
  • windshield wiper defroster
  • tow chain or rope
  • ice scraper and brush
  • shovel and booster cables
  • tools
  • rags or paper towels

If you must abandon your vehicle following a disaster, leave a note containing the following information on the dashboard:

  • Who you are
  • Where you are going
  • The route you plan to take
  • The time you leave
  • Remember to dress for the weather and take your emergency "Grab and Go Bag " with you
