Tips for Being Prepared At Work:

- Check for hazards and find safe protective areas at work
- Practice "Drop/Cover Hold drill"
- Know your work's evacuation plan for both fires and earthquakes
- Keep your Out of Province/Area Contact Number with you at all times
- Ensure that you have a plan for your children, dependent individuals, and pets if you are unable to leave work in the wake of a disaster
Emergency Tips for Your Vehicle
- Always pull vehicle over to a safe spot during the shaking of an earthquake
- Protect yourself during the earthquake and follow instructions on what to do if you are in your car during an earthquake
- Always keep your fuel at least ¼ tank full
- Always carry an emergency "Grab and Go Bag" in your vehicle
- If power-lines should fall on your vehicle stay in the car and await for assistance
Extra items to keep in your car depending on the season:
- fire extinguisher
- sand, salt, kitty litter or traction mats
- windshield wiper defroster
- tow chain or rope
- ice scraper and brush
- shovel and booster cables
- tools
- rags or paper towels
If you must abandon your vehicle following a disaster, leave a note containing the following information on the dashboard:
- Who you are
- Where you are going
- The route you plan to take
- The time you leave
