Disaster Response Routes are a unified network of roads that are intended to allow emergency services to travel where they are needed during disasters. These roads will be limited to emergency needs, including controlled evacuations (could be linked to evacuation stage page). Access must be kept clear to allow supplies and services to quickly move to the areas with the greatest need.
These routes may be controlled by emergency responders, police forces and City Personnel in the event of an emergency. Public service broadcasts will provide citizens with updated status reports and information on what the routes are being used for. The public will be allowed back onto these routes as soon as possible.
Watch for Disaster Response Route sign on roads as they indicate routes reserved for emergency vehicles in the event of a natural disaster or other emergency. Learning to recognize these routes is also an important step in preparing for an earthquake or other disaster.
Disaster Response Routes will be:
-
The first roads to be cleared
-
Limited to emergency needs in the immediate aftermath of a disaster, including controlled evacuations
-
Reserved for prompt delivery of supplies and organized medical evacuation to affected hospitals
