Each type of disaster requires different measures to keep your pets safe. The best thing you can do for yourself and your pets is to be prepared.
1. Remember that if your family is evacuated from your home, you must make plans for your pet/s. Pets will not be allowed to stay with you at a Group Lodging site for evacuees. Health regulations only permit Guide dogs or Assistance dogs to be with their owners at Group Lodging sites.
2. Please make arrangements for your pet/s with friends, family or at a private or commercial boarding facility (see list below).
3. If you are leaving your pet/s with someone, please have this information ready for that person:
- Phone number, name and address of Vet hospital or clinic
- Phone numbers that you can be reached at
- Pet policy number where applicable
- Any medications or special diet instructions for your pet
- Identification collars/tags and Microchip or Tattoo numbers
- Favourite or familiar bedding or toys for your pet
4. Limited billeting for pets is available to those that are in need. If you require such assistance, a member of the ESS Pet Care Services team may be able to arrange for a needs assessment.
5. If you have any animal crates or carriers that accompany your pet/s, please label or place your name & contact information on the item.
