Licence Your Pet

Protect your pet with a dog licence

Help Your Dog Find Its Way Home

A dog licence helps protect your pet by providing an easy-to-identify dog tag and registration with the Coquitlam Animal Shelter. If your pet is lost anywhere in the world, the fastest way to be reunited with your dog is by this dog tag and the licence.

Dog licence fees also help fund the Coquitlam Animal Shelter which protects and finds homes for stray animals in the city, and help pay for animal control and regulatory services associated with pet ownership.

Remember your dog's licence - it's required by bylaw!

All dogs over the age of seven months must be licenced every year with the City of Coquitlam. Bylaw Notice Violations (tickets) will be issued if your dog is found unlicensed. A minimum penalty for an unlicensed dog is $150.

The City will send a Licence Renewal in December when your dog tag needs to be renewed. Please remember to notify us if you move away or no longer have your dog, so that we may deactivate your license account.

Cost

For spayed or neutered dogs, the rate is $27.00 until February 1, and $42.00 after February 1.

For non-spayed or non-neutered pets, the reduced rate is $50.00 until February 1, and $65.00 after February 1.

Dog Licences expire December 31.

Deadlines for licenses

If you have been asked by a Bylaw Officer to purchase a license by a specific deadline or to comply with a Notice of Violation, please assure that the license is purchased in-person by a specific date. You may also ask for an extension to your deadline. Failure to comply with the deadline may result in fines being mailed to you. For more information, or to speak to a Bylaw Officer, please call us at 604-927-7387.
