Reporting Strays

If you see a stray dog, please call the Coquitlam Animal Shelter at 604-927-7387 (604-927-PETS). Also call the Shelter during reporting hours to report dead animals on the road.  After Shelter hours call City Hall Customer Service at 604-927-3500. 


 

Reporting Hours

 

Monday to Friday                               8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Sat, Sun and Statutory holidays        9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

 

After hours, an answering machine will be in place.  Please leave a message and Shelter staff will return your call the next working day.  If your call is an emergency related to a vicious dog, please call the non emergency RCMP number at 604-945-1550 or the 24hr Engineering Customer Service number at 604-927-3500.


 

What information should I provide when reporting a stray? 

  • Where you found or last saw the stray
  • Time of Day
  • Description of animal
  • Provide your best guess if you think you know the owner of that animal  

 

Will the Shelter come and pick up stray animals?

 

The Shelter will pick up stray dogs.  Stray cats must be brought into the Shelter.  Shelter staff will collect stray cats if you are unable to bring them to the shelter and you have them contained (ie. in your garage, in your home, in a crate/container).


 

The City of Coquitlam does not deal with injured or abused domestic animals or injured wildlife.  To report:

  • Injured or abused domestic animals call the SPCA Emergency Line at 604-879-7349 or Vancouver SPCA at 879-7721
  • Injured wildlife call the Provincial Government at 1-800-663-9453
