Bike Routes

The City has 13.1km of bike routes. 43% of this are dedicated bike lanes (or 5.6km). These bike lane locations are listed below:

  • 2.1km - Guildford Way
  • 1.4km - David Avenue
  • 2.1km - Chilko Drive

There are also bike routes around Mundy Park, which are part of the Strategic Transportation Plan Bicycle Network.

Future Bike Routes

The City has recently approved the Strategic Transportation Plan, including a comprehensive Bicycle Network Plan and a staged investment strategy to complete the full network over the next 20 years.

New Bike Route Projects 2009/2010

  • Coquitlam Fraser Greenway Project - A planning study to determine a preferred alignment for a multi-use greenway.
  • Lougheed Hwy (dedicated bike lanes) from North Road to Blue Mountain (1.7km approx. - 1-way)
  • Westview - Whiting Way Bike Route (shared on-road -1.8km approx. - 1-way) - Parallel to North Rd. - Connects the Rochester Bike Route to Smith /Regan (Future Bike Route)

The following are the priorities that have been identified for the next five years:

  • Construction of on-street bicycle facilities on Guildford Way between Port Moody and the City Centre. This also completes the City's commitments to the Trans Canada Trail and will connect residents with many major commercial, institutional and recreational destinations.
  • Localized improvements on Lougheed Highway to address certain pinch points such as Riverview Hospital, the Brunette to Schoolhouse section etc.
  • Improvements to several east-west and north-south bicycle routes in SW Coquitlam. Examples are Foster Avenue, and Alderson Avenue.
  • Improvements for bicycle facilities in conjunction with other transportation projects in the City. Key examples would be providing for cyclists on any new crossing of the Coquitlam River, providing additional pavement width on various streets as developments proceed, and revising traffic markings over time to provide additional width to the curb lane.
