Construction Update

King Edward Street Overpass Project Update

August 23, 2010

  • Casings for Telus lines and the City’s sanitary sewer line are being bored under the existing King Edward underpass and the CPR tracks.
  • Work is continuing on relocation of utilities south of the CPR, and placement of the light-weight poly-styrene has begun.
  • Work is continuing on the drilled shafts for the two bridge piers that are north of the Trans Canada Highway
  • The existing traffic detours in the vicinity of this project will be in place until mid 2011. Traffic shifts and lane closures along the detour routes will happen fairly regularly to allow for utility relocations and road construction.
  • Closures in the underpass may be required for utility work, but will be limited to night time. Ads will be put in local papers if closures are required.

There will also be a 12-week full closure of King Edward between Lougheed and United Boulevard that is anticipated to begin in the Spring of 2011.
