The large Glu-Lam beams, which acted as the supporting framework of the old Chimo Pool building, were dismantled and will be recycled rather than dumped in a landfill. They will be refinished as non-supporting, exposed beams in the Hall-of-Fame lobby of the new Sports Centre facility. Sections of this unique wood product not suitable for reuse as interior beams may be re-manufactured into benches or display cases.

The format of this program was reconfigured this year and each of the 25 households were recognized for their efforts in producing outstanding curb-appeal in their front yards. City staff worked closely with the Dogwood Garden Club to offer this program. We'll be sending out judges again next summer to look for more yards with curb appeal.

The Eleanor Ward Bridge is just one part of a larger project that includes two new bridges, two travel lanes in each direction, four new traffic signals, on-street bicycle lanes, a new sidewalk, a mixed used path and improved street lighting.

Chimo Aquatic and Fitness Centre is located at 625 Poirier and has several features the promote physical fitness, health improvement and therapeutic programs as well as fun activities and amenities for all ages.

Coquitlam Fire/Rescue and the BC Forest Service/Ministry of Forests held a joint training event involving a scenario where a fire breaks out in an urban park and requires a combined response.

In a ceremony designed to kick off the project with a splash, Coquitlam will be officially launching construction of the new pool on Poirier Street as part of its annual Open House taking place September 24, 2005 at the Poirier Street recreation facilities.

Coquitlams parks and trails include features ranging from picnic areas and playgrounds, to outdoor pools, spray parks, sportsfields and skateboard parks.
