Program Description:
ELSA provides English language training for adult newcomers in speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students learn about important things like Canadian laws, health care, society and employment. Some ELSA classes can teach students how to find a job, use a computer and communicate in the workplace. ELSA Program offers classes for people with different levels of English, from Levels 1 through 5.

Client Profile / Eligibility Criteria:
Permanent residents and refugees who meet the following criteria:
• 17 years or older
• Resident of BC, or
• Live-in Caregiver work permit
• Canadian Citizens not eligible

Registration Information:
The first step for free English classes is to fill out an ELSA Application Form and complete and assessment test. Applicants can visit ISS to get the ELSA Application Form or contact Surrey Language Assessment Centre at 604-507-4150.

Start Dates / Duration:
Classes are offered all year. Classes can be taken in the morning, afternoon or evening.
Length of services for participants depends on their level – typically between 7 to 23 months
