English as an Additional Language Programs (EAL)

SHARE Family & Community Services, in partnership with: Coquitlam Public Library, Fraser Valley Regional Library (Terry Fox Branch), Port Moody Public Library and Port Coquitlam Parks & Recreation — with support from Pinetree Community Centre, and 43 Housing Society ( Cedar Terrace and Friendship Manor housing sites).

Program Description:
English Practice Groups assist adults, for whom English is a second language, with their families’ settlement and adjustments by providing a friendly place for them to:
• Practice speaking in English
• Connect with people and make new friends
• Learn about their new community and available community resources
• Discover opportunities for them and their families to become engaged in the community by contributing their leadership, skills and resources
• Learn about Canadian culture, and participate in cross-cultural sharing
These groups are facilitated by a team of Volunteer Facilitators.


Client Profile / Eligibility Criteria:
Adults 19 years + who want to practice speaking in English and newcomers to Canada
2 groups have free child minding available & parents / caregivers can bring their children to these groups

Registration Information:
Drop in - registration is done on-site upon arrival at a group

Ongoing, on a yearly basis
