The City of Coquitlam is offering a unique opportunity for an Archivist to be at the forefront of establishing the City’s first Archives Program. This is a specialized position involving professional archival work of considerable complexity including responsibility for the development, implementation and management of a corporate and public archives program.

In this moderately complex, technical and customer-service role in the Planning & Development Department, you will: ● provide guidance to the public on development applications including subdivision, rezoning, and development permits ● prepare subdivision, zoning and other land use maps using AutoCad ● input data into an application tracking system ● confirm zoning and Official Community Plan land use designations on lots ● research historic property information ● prepare zoning inquiry and comfort letters ● review sign permit applications for conformity with the City’s Sign Bylaw.

Qualified candidates will have completed Grade 12 supplemented by commercial courses, knowledge of modern office practices and procedures, experience with operating office equipment including a computer terminal, proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel and the ability to make sound decisions.  Knowledge of basic accounting would be an asset.

You will be responsible for providing strategic communication advice to facilitate Council and City directives. As a seasoned, skilled professional, you’re comfortable offering your expert guidance to senior managers and leading a dedicated team of communication specialists. You are able to adapt your approach to address varying work styles in a political atmosphere.

This is specialized work in providing specified direct support services to crime and trauma victims and witnesses on an on-call basis.  An incumbent of this class provides crisis intervention support, information and referrals at the scene of crimes, domestic disputes and other serious incidents.  Considerable independent action and judgement are exercised within the framework of established procedures in functioning effectively under conditions of emergency and conflict. Work is performed under general supervision and results are reviewed and evaluated by a superior to ensure conformance with established procedures, policies and the maintenance of established standards.

This is communications and public relations work performed in support of the Coquitlam RCMP Detachment.  An incumbent assists a superior in advising program managers and staff on communications matters; develops and executes selected communications plans and assists in the development of the annual communications strategy; develops various communications materials, and reviews website content for compliance with established standards; and liaises with a variety of external contacts.  Considerable independent judgement and initiative are exercised in the work while unusual problems are discussed with a superior who reviews performance for quality of work products and effectiveness in meeting objectives.

Applicants will have experience working in a janitorial capacity and have preferably completed a Building Service Worker certificate through a recognized program and related technical training and sound experience in the operation and maintenance of water heating, filtration, pumps, boilers and chlorination equipment.

In this technical support position within the Public Works Department, you will maintain and expand a computerized maintenance management system in an environment where you can exercise your independent judgment and action. You will provide guidance and assistance to users in integrating data and developing system report generation capabilities; produces and analyzes various related reports and statistical data; and recommends system modifications and improvements.  You will also develop procedural guidelines and provide training and technical advice to users.

The City of Coquitlam is currently seeking a self-motivated, well organized, and responsible individual who possesses excellent organizational, interpersonal and high accuracy skills. This position will support the General Manager of Engineering and Public Works and will assist in the preparation and monitoring of budgets, coordinates and maintains departmental strategic, business, and work plans to ensure they are aligned with corporate work programs.

Working with a staff team, the Manager will undertake planning, strategic and policy projects, including needs assessments, research, public consultation, conceptual design and master plans, utilizing current technology and best practice. A variety of information materials, reports and correspondence will be produced in the advancement of the work including public presentations. The Manager is also responsible for coordinating and collaborating with other divisions in the department, other city departments and agencies and external stakeholders, including citizen groups and the development community.

In this senior leadership role, you will be responsible for coordinating the delivery
of the highest quality fire suppression, prevention, education and rescue services
for the growing City of Coquitlam.

Working on a team and under minimal supervision, this position will be responsible for delivering outreach education on the City of Coquitlam’s recycling and waste reduction programs, including developing and implementing Elementary and Middle School recycling presentations. This position will also assist in organizing a ‘Green Village’ for the City’s Canada Day event as well as attending other events to promote recycling programs. Other duties include responding to resident inquiries and providing program information related to City initiatives, obtaining feedback from residents regarding waste reduction programs, assisting in the design and preparation of educational/informational material as directed, preparing and maintaining database records. Performs related work as required.

The Planning and Development Department of the City of Coquitlam is looking for a Summer Intern to work from May through August 2013.  The intern will gain experience by working on a variety of planning projects, with each project directly supervised by a Professional Planner who will provide coaching and guidance on all special assignments and quality assurance on fulfilling all planning project assignments. 

Under minimal supervision, you will assist with the maintenance and repair of City Public Works including Roads, Water, Sewer and Drainage infrastructure. Some duties may include but are not limited to:  litter collection; weed removals; vegetation control; traffic markings; assisting in utility service repairs; assisting in ditch cleaning; assisting in fire hydrant painting; assisting in pump station landscaping.

This summer position would be ideal for a civil or structural engineering student who would like to gain some municipal government experience. This is routine technical field work involving the collection and recording of information related to the location, condition and related aspects of various public works or parks facilities..

 

Working on a team and under minimal supervision, you will be responsible for delivering outreach education on wildlife attractant management practices and responding to calls from the public regarding a range of urban wildlife and vector issues. This position will also include patrolling neighborhoods for relevant Bylaw compliance, conducting site inspections and gathering data and advising residents about best practices to avoid attracting wildlife and rodents. Other duties will include research and report writing, on line data entry, assisting with developing a Bear-Human Conflict Management Plan for Coquitlam, conducting presentations to schools and community groups and working at a variety of public outreach events.

Supporting the Public Works team performing skilled manual work, you will ● operate, maintain, clean, test, repair and adjust fire hydrants, pumps and related equipment ● repair or replace water or sanitary and storm services ● perform maintenance and routine repair of roads, streets, boulevards, pedestrian walkways, water or sanitary and storm sewer systems ● supervise other staff members assigned to perform the less complex aspects of the work ● operate relevant equipment.

Supporting the Public Works team performing skilled manual work, you will: repair of roadways, streets, boulevards and pedestrian passages operates large street sweepers, flushers and a flail mower ●  maintains, installs and inspects street signs and asphalt road services, assists in concrete finishing tasks ●  operates single and tandem axle dump tracks engaged in a variety of activities including snow removal and directs subordinates assigned to per¬form the less complex aspects of the work ● maintains, cleans, tests and performs routine repairs on various pumps, valves, hydrants and related equipment and performs pipelaying on water, storm and sanitary sewers.
