Volunteering with Parks, Recreation and Culture Services

Gain Experience. Get Involved. Become a Volunteer!

Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, gain valuable experience, have fun, and get involved in your community. The City of Coquitlam has many different volunteer opportunities to choose from.

Volunteers must be 13 years of age or older and successfully complete the application process which includes: 

  • Interview
  • Criminal Record Search
  • Reference Check
  • Orientation Session

Community Centres

Pinetree Community Centre and Poirier Community Centre  delivers programs to children and youth.  Volunteers assist staff and provide support to participants in activities that include arts and crafts, sports, dance and special events.  There are also leadership opportunities for youth to join the Youth Advisory Committee.

Aquatics

Swimming lessons and other aquatic programs are available at City Centre Aquatic Complex and the pool at Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex.  Qualified volunteers assist staff during swimming lessons and may provide one to one support to participants who need extra help.  Other activities include special events and birthday parties.

Special Events

Sign up to assist at one of the special events and celebrations throughout the year.  One of the largest is the annual Canada Day Celebration.  Volunteers assist with the set-up and take-down of exhibits, assist with entertainment, food and clean-up.

Inspiration Garden

Learn more about gardening while helping others.  Volunteers at the Inspiration Garden participate in planting, harvesting and educational activities throughout the year.

Environment

Environment volunteers preserve and protect our natural environment by keeping Coquitlam trails clean, green and safe through programs like Adopt-A-Trail and Bad Seed.

50Plus

Glen Pine Pavilion and Dogwood Pavilion have programs for adults 50 years and over.  Volunteers assist in various social activities, educational programs and special events.

Coquitlam Youth Councils and Youth Program Committees

These are volunteer membership positions for youth in Grades 9 to 12 (14 - 18 years) who are Coquitlam residents or attend school in Coquitlam.  They provide opportunities for youth to meet new people, learn more about the community and gain leadership and work experience skills. 

  • Coquitlam Youth Councils

    Coquitlam East and West Youth Councils create opportunities for youth to get involve with decisions in their community.  They meet during the school year and provide ideas, feedback, and suggestions on city-wide initiatives and youth events.

  • Youth Program Committees

    The Poirier and Pinetree Youth Program Committees focus on activities in the community and help plan special events.  They meet during the school year and are great opportunities to gain experience and leadership skills.
