The 12 Cats of Christmas

COQUITLAM, BC, Monday, December 12, 2010 – During the holiday season, friends and family gather to celebrate and to enjoy each other’s company.  But what about four-legged feline friends that don’t have a warm place to call home?  That’s the question on the minds of the Coquitlam Animal Shelter staff and volunteers.

“Our animal shelter has dozens of wonderful cats that would love a good and caring home,” said Mayor Richard Stewart.  “With Home for the Holidays, we’ve set a goal to find homes for 12 cats by Christmas Day.”

The City will be posting the names, photos and descriptions of 12 (among many!) cats currently available for adoption at the Coquitlam Animal Shelter on its Facebook page. Those interested in adopting a cat can ask to see one of these particular feline friends, or view the other cats available for adoption.

All pets from the Animal Shelter come spayed or neutered, receive permanent identification, a set of vaccinations, flea and worm treatments and all cats are tested for diseases. The fee for cat adoptions is $98.  But if there is room in your heart, and your home, the adoption fee drops to $78 for the second cat adopted (i.e. $176 for two cats).

The Coquitlam Animal Shelter does not permit the adoption of pets as gifts for someone else. Adopting a pet is a decision that needs to be carefully considered and agreed upon by the whole family. For more information on Animal Shelter Adoptions, or to see available pets for adoption, visit our Pets Available for Adoption page.
