Donations For Displaced Cottonwood Avenue Residents

by Heather Escaravage |
UPDATE – Monday, August 2 – 4:30 pm

Our sincere thanks to the members of our community who have been reaching out asking how they can help residents displaced by the fire at 550 Cottonwood Avenue.

Donation Offers

We continue to receive offers of donated items, such as gently used clothing and toys, but this is not something the City can accept. Please do not drop off items at civic facilities. If you have items you wish to donate, you are encouraged to contact local charities to determine what their needs might be.

For those wishing to provide financial assistance to support relief efforts for the displaced citizens, please note the following options:

  • Coquitlam Foundation -  Go to coquitlamfoundation.com, click on the ‘Donate Now’ button on the lower right section of the page, select the ‘Community Fund’ in the drop-down box and reference ‘Cottonwood Fire’ in the message section. Tax receipts will be issued. The Foundation will oversee disbursement to registered non-profits that are assisting those impacted by the fire.
  • TriCities Friends of Refugees Task Group – The Task Group has established a GoFundMe page to fund the immediate and pressing needs of the displaced residents, such as diapers and other personal supplies. The Task Group will be disbursing these funds directly to the residents.
The City advises residents to be cautious when donating to any fundraising campaigns and to verify the organization and/or individual running the campaign.

We will continue to update as opportunities to volunteer or assist become available.

We will continue to post updates for residents, as available, here, as well as to Facebook and Twitter.
