by Heather Escaravage |

COQUITLAM, BC, Oct. 25, 2016 – The City of Coquitlam is thanking residents for their feedback on the Parks, Recreation & Culture Master Plan – Implementation Strategy.

Staff will incorporate feedback into the final Master Plan and Implementation Strategy, which will be presented to Council later in 2016. That community input will be used to guide parks, recreation and culture decisions and direction for the next 10-15 years.

Over the spring and summer of 2016 Coquitlam residents and stakeholders took part in consultation on the strategy, including participation in an interactive online survey. Participants provided feedback on any or all of the 18 service areas addressed in the Master Plan.

The City received over 1,000 completed surveys with the following information received:

  • Over 75% of participants agree with the actions, timing, and funding for Recreation within the Implementation Strategy
  • Over 85% of participants agree with the actions, timing, and funding for Parks
  • Over 80% of participants agree with the actions, timing, and funding for Culture
  • 90% of respondents agree with the future expansion of arts, culture, and heritage facilities
  • 64% of participants were under the age of 50 and 35% were over 50
  • Participants were most interested in talking about: arenas, aquatics, community centres, developed parks, and indoor sports and physical activities
