New Operator for Coquitlam Covered Tennis Facility

by Michelle Frilund |

COQUITLAM, BC, April 10, 2017 – Following a public Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEI) process, the City of Coquitlam has selected a new operator for the covered tennis facility at 1650 Foster Ave, located on the corner of Foster Avenue and Poirier Street in Coquitlam.

The new operator will be 0956339 B.C. LTD, a shareholder company led by Larry Jurovich who operates the Surrey Tennis Centre.  The new name of the facility will be the Coquitlam Tennis Centre.

The current agreement with the operator “People’s Courts” expires on June 30, 2017 and the existing air-supported dome structure covering the tennis courts is due for replacement.  The City appreciates People’s Courts committment to the delivery of tennis services over the past 16 years.

This facility currently consists of five covered tennis courts and an adjoining clubhouse. The Coquitlam Tennis Centre will be designed for the optimal delivery of instructional tennis programs, public play and hosting local, provincial, national and international tournaments. The facility will focus on teaching the game of tennis and providing public access to covered courts to the community. Court booking fees will be in line with comparable local facilities, and will ensure there are opportunities for anyone who is passionate about the game to learn and play, regardless of income. There will be no membership fees.

Proposed renovations to the facility include a double layer, fully-insulated and energy-efficient bubble, overhead lighting, tennis court resurfacing, building accessibility improvements and an aesthetic makeover to the clubhouse. It is anticipated that construction will begin in July 2017 and that the facility will be open at the beginning of September.

The new operator will hold an Open House for the public to answer questions about the changes to the facility and share his vision for community access and programming:
