Coquitlam Goes Green with a Rain Barrel Sale, Free Compost and Garage Sales

COQUITLAM, BC, April 19, 2017 – The City of Coquitlam is making it easy for residents to ‘go green’ this spring with three Earth-friendly programs: Free Compost Giveaway, a Tri-Cities Rain Barrel Sale and a City-wide Garage Sale.

Tri-Cities Rain Barrel Sale

Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody residents can harvest rainwater for their gardens by purchasing a rain barrel at this Tri-Cities event.

WHERE: Austin Works Yard Parking Lot, across from the Coquitlam Animal Shelter (500 Mariner Way)
WHEN: May 6, 2017 - 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

  • Rain barrels will be for sale for $55, tax included (no limit and proof of residency is not required). 
  • Rain barrels are payable by cash, cheque, debit or credit card.

Rain barrels can also be purchased in advance, until May 2, 2017, and picked up at the event.  To purchase online, visit www.enviroworld.ca/tri-cities

Compost and Composters 

Coquitlam residents can get a jump on spring planting with a free bag of compost from the City as a part of Compost Awareness Week, May 7-13.  

WHERE: Austin Works Yard Parking Lot, across from the Coquitlam Animal Shelter (500 Mariner Way)
WHEN: May 13, 2017 - 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

  • One free bag of compost per Coquitlam household only, while supplies last.
  • Composters will be available for sale on site for $25, plus tax and are payable by cash only. 
  • Composters are available to buy while stocks last.​
  • Limit:  Residents may purchase up to four composters per household. 
  • Proof of Coquitlam residency is required to receive a free bag of compost and for the purchase of composters.

City-Wide Garage Sale 

Want help promoting your Garage Sale?  

Coquitlam provides free advertising for residents who plan to host a garage sale on May 27, 2017, and register with the City.  Residents can register up until May 1, 2017, to be included in the list of participating addresses.  Get your garage sale advertised on the City website and in the local newspaper for free.   

To register online, please visit coquitlam.ca/garagesale or pick up the forms at the main reception areas of Coquitlam City Hall, Dogwood Pavilion or Glen Pine Pavilion.
