COQUITLAM, BC, May 24, 2017 – Got your bike helmet and your sunscreen? Coquitlam is encouraging residents to get out of their cars and onto their bikes for daily commutes starting May 29 for Bike to Work & School Week. The City is hosting two celebration stations in partnership with HUB from 3:30 – 6 p.m during the week:

  • May 31 - Foster Avenue and Poirier Street; and
  • June 1 - Guildford Way and Pinetree Way (in front of City Hall).

Cyclists can enjoy free snacks, drinks, bike mechanic services and enter to win prizes.

The City is committed to cycling outreach and infrastructure through the Strategic Transportation Plan. In 2016 there was 1.8km of bike route infrastructure built, bringing the total of bike lines, multi-use pathways, bikeways and other related infrastructure up to 51km across Coquitlam.

Don’t forget to also sign up for the Commuter Challenge, a week-long event during Canadian Environment Week (June 4- 10, 2017). The challenge is a friendly competition between Canadian cities and workplaces and encourages commuters to leave their cars at home and instead walk, cycle, carpool/ride-share, or take transit to work. Register as an individual or as a workplace at www.commuterchallenge.ca.
