Design a Mock 2018 Budget for Coquitlam Online

by Michelle Frilund |

COQUITLAM, BC, Aug. 31, 2017 – How do you think Coquitlam should be spending taxpayer dollars?

From Sept. 1 to 30, Coquitlam residents can design their own mock budget for the City using the interactive Citizen Budget tool at www.coquitlam.ca/budget.

The process takes about eight minutes to complete and starts with a mock property tax bill. As users assign funding levels to various City services, such as garbage pickup and recreation, they immediately see the impact of their budget decisions on the mock bill.

Coquitlam has used Citizen Budget each year since 2014 to gain insights about what services its citizens value most and least, while also giving residents a chance to provide meaningful input.

Each year’s citizen-designed budgets play a key role in City decisions about services and funding levels in the upcoming budget.

Citizen Budget can be accessed on either a computer or mobile device, and users are encouraged to share their budget on social media to encourage others to participate.

Full information is available at www.coquitlam.ca/budget.
