Coquitlam Remembers: Join Us in Displaying Our Gratitude

COQUITLAM, BC, Oct. 26, 2017 – Honour those who have served our country by contributing to a community display prior to Remembrance Day at Coquitlam’s Blue Mountain Park.

All members of the public are invited to join Coquitlam’s Park Spark team on site from Nov. 1 – 10 at the times list below to take part in this meaningful project. For a video that demonstrates the impact of this initiative, visit https://youtu.be/18mgQURQQpc.

The City of Coquitlam would like to encourage community members to share the Coquitlam Remembers video through social media to help us to encourage others to take part.

The following events lead up to Coquitlam’s Remembrance Day Ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 11.

Coquitlam Remembers (Nov. 1 – 10, 2017)

Park Spark staff will be at Blue Mountain Park, near the corner of King Albert Ave. and Veteran’s Way, during the specified times. Drop in to paint your own poppy on the lawn to add to the display, or help to paint sky flags that will line Veteran’s Way.

Residents are also invited to write personal messages of remembrance on yellow ribbons, which will be tied to trees throughout the park. These will be kept up until Nov. 18.

Thursday, Nov. 2 | 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Friday, Nov. 3 | 3 – 7 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 4 | 1 – 4 p.m.
Sunday, Nov. 5 | 1 – 4 p.m.
Monday, Nov. 6 | 1 – 4 p.m.
Tuesday, Nov. 7 | 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 8 | 3 – 7 p.m.
Thursday, Nov. 9 | 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Friday, Nov. 10 | 3 – 7 p.m. 

Activities will take place rain or shine. All supplies will be provided and all ages are welcome. Wear clothing appropriate for painting or working outdoors. For updates, visit www.coquitlam.ca/parkspark.

Coquitlam Remembrance Day Ceremony (Nov. 11, 2017)

The Royal Canadian Legion # 263 will host a traditional Remembrance Day ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Blue Mountain Park Cenotaph. The ceremony will start at 9:45 a.m. at Como Lake Middle School (1121 King Albert Ave.), followed by a parade starting at 10:30 a.m. along Winslow Avenue to the cenotaph on Veteran’s Way.

The service at the cenotaph will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a veteran, police and Fire/Rescue parade to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 263 (1025 Ridgeway Ave.) Grandchildren and great grandchildren are invited to march with the veterans. 

Lunch will be available at the Legion for a nominal fee, followed by live music and other activities. For more details, visit www.rclegion263.ca.
