Coquitlam Making Changes to Streamline Business Licences

by GS GS |

COQUITLAM, BC, Tuesday, March 11, 2014 – In an effort to help cut red tape for Coquitlam businesses, the City has made a number of changes to the City’s business licencing regulations.

This is the first bylaw review and fee update since 2007 and largely aims to streamline and simplify the way business licence fees are collected making licences more user-friendly for businesses and more administratively-efficient for staff.

The changes help establish fees that are more equitable based on businesses’ sizes and impact on the community. It will also help establish a framework for improved online processes.

One of the key changes is that the total number of business licence types has been reduced from more than 70 different types to eight broad categories.

Overall, there will be very little impact on the City’s revenue generated from business licensing. In fact, more than half of businesses will see their annual licence fees decrease or remain the same.

The changes come into effect May 1st, 2014. For more information, businesses can visit www.coquitlam.ca/businesslicences.
