Have Your Say on Coquitlam’s 2015 Budget Before October 15

by GS GS |

COQUITLAM, BC, Friday, October 10, 2014 – Residents hoping to join the more than 115 people to share their input on the City of Coquitlam’s 2015 budget have just a few days left to do so.

The online Citizen Budget tool has been available since September 15 at www.coquitlam.ca/budget. The easy-to-follow process takes an estimated 10 minutes or less and can be completed online.

The input will provide valuable information to Council and staff about which City services are valued the most – and the least – and will help inform the 2015 financial planning process.

Developed by the Canadian non-profit organization OpenNorth, the same technology is already being used successfully by a number of other cities across Canada including the Township of Langley, Edmonton, Yellowknife, Toronto and Montreal.

Coquitlam introduced the system this fall in the hopes of boosting public participation in the budget process, while also providing Council with clear and meaningful input to consider during their 2015 budget deliberations.

To date, more than 800 have visited the online information and over 115 have participated in the survey tool. This represents a significant increase from the fewer than 50 people who attended the 2014 Budget meeting last year and the 20 people who provided input.

The online budget tool will be closed for input on Wednesday, October 15. Results will be presented to Council during the budget deliberations to be held between November 2014 and March 2015.
