New Burke Mountain Firehall Officially Opened

by GS GS |

COQUITLAM, BC, Saturday, March 28, 2015 – The City of Coquitlam, with the help of  the Burke Mountain neighbourhood, officially opened the new Burke Mountain Firehall.

The 16 members of Engine Company Four have been operating from the new, state-of-the-art facility, located on David Avenue, since mid-February.

But today’s celebrations marked an opportunity for Mayor and Councillors, staff, the project team and the community to celebrate and tour the new facility.

The post-disaster building was completed on time at a total capital cost of $10.6 million. The new Burke Mountain Firehall meets a fundamental public safety need, providing an improved, faster and more centralized response in this growing neighbourhood.

The facility can grow with the neighbourhood accommodating, if necessary, two full-time 24/7 emergency crews.

But the new firehall also provides a valuable community resource including a community room / meeting space, community message board provided by the Northeast Ratepayers’ Association, and could be a gathering place during a large-scale disaster.
