by GS GS |

COQUITLAM, BC, Wednesday, February 18, 2015 – Coquitlam Fire/Rescue has completed their investigation following a structure fire at 2915 Glen Drive on Monday, February 16, 2015.

The results concluded that the fire is not considered suspicious. It started on an external, lower level balcony located on the west side of the apartment building. Although the exact source of ignition remains undetermined, the fire did start adjacent to a barbeque and nearby recycling materials.

The building has now been turned over to the property managers and their insurance company to begin the restoration process and determine access to suites for personal belongings. Residents should continue to contact those parties, as well as their own insurers, going forward.

Information for residents will continue to be posted to www.coquitlam.ca/news as necessary, as well as to social media and the information phone line (604-927-4357).

For residents still wishing to support evacuated residents, a fund has been established at Coast Capital Savings. Donations can be made to any branch in the name of “Coquitlam Fire Victims”. Additional information on donating is available at www.coquitlamfirevictims.ca.

Residents of structures with external balconies are reminded to be aware of the potential for rapid, uncontrolled spread of fire due to outdoor cooking or heating devices and accumulated household goods or combustible materials.
