Coquitlam Approves 2016 Business Plan Priorities

COQUITLAM, BC, December 7, 2015 – In order to ensure the City achieves its annual goals and uses its resources efficiently and effectively, Coquitlam Council has approved its 2016 Business Plan.

The annual process identifies and prioritizes a set of key initiatives for staff to focus on during the year. The business plan priorities are ranked in order of importance and are aligned with the following criteria: 

  • Supports City strategic goals and directions,
  • Fulfills initiatives currently underway and budgeted,
  • Responds to externally driven initiatives,
  • Reflects public priorities based on Ipsos Reid survey findings and general feedback,
  • Minimizes strategic enterprise risk.

Highlights for the 2016 plan, sorted by strategic goal, include: 

Strengthen Neighbourhoods

  • Coquitlam 125 anniversary celebrations
  • Town Centre Event Plaza construction
  • Partington Creek Neighbourhood Centre Master Plan
  • Burquitlam / Lougheed Neighbourhood Plan

Expand Local Jobs, Local Prosperity

  • Pinetree Way construction
  • Public parking in rapid transit areas
  • Tourism Program implementation
  • Economic Development Strategy

Increase Active Participation and Creativity

  • Place Maillardville planning
  • Rochester Park construction
  • Town Centre Park Master Plan
  • Coquitlam Crunch upgrades

Enhance Sustainability of City Services and Infrastructure

  • YMCA facility
  • Future of Riverview Lands
  • Strategic interests in Northeast Coquitlam
    • Smiling Creek joint park / school planning
    • Phased City lands sales and marketing
  • Transfer station continuity 

Achieve Excellence in City Governance

  • Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan Implementation Strategy

To ensure transparency and accountability, staff publicly report to Council on a trimesterly basis to provide updates on progress made in achieving the business plan priorities.
