New Hours and Expanded Services at Town Centre Recycling Depot

by Robbin Whachell |

COQUITLAM, BC, Sept. 27, 2017 – Starting Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, the Town Centre Recycling Depot will have new operating hours and an expanded range of services.

In addition to the currently accepted household containers, cardboard, and mixed paper and books, the depot will now be accepting clean white Styrofoam. The depot will also be staffed by a full-time attendant who can assist visitors to the depot while providing improved security, better customer service and less illegal dumping.

City staff are working with stewardship programs and agencies to further expand the list of accepted items for recycling to include household batteries and a variety of small electric household appliances. Updates to these services will be shared when available.

The depot will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays (closed on statutory holidays). The depot is open to Coquitlam residents only and proof of residency is required.

To accommodate the expanded services and larger bins for Styrofoam and cardboard, as well as to maintain safe access for the public, residents will no longer be permitted to drive into the depot. On-street parking is available next to the depot.

Information about the changes to Town Centre Recycling Depot and other recycling or disposal options is available at www.coquitlam.ca/recycle. Check out the City’s online Waste Wizard to find out how to recycle, compost or dispose of specific items. Simply type the name of the waste item and the wizard will tell you how to recycle, compost or dispose of it.

Coquitlam residents are also encouraged to use the Coquitlam Transfer Station Recycling Depot at 1200 United Boulevard.  The City of Coquitlam pays over 60% of the costs to operate this regional recycling facility, which is open 363 days of the year and accepts over 20 categories of recyclables for free drop off.
