Enhanced Pedestrian Connection to Maple Creek Middle School

by Robbin Whachell |

COQUITLAM, BC, Sept. 29, 2017 – Students, parents, and teachers of Maple Creek Middle School will be celebrating an enhanced pedestrian connection from Lincoln Ave. to Hastings St.  on Wednesday, Oct. 4 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. The event coincides with International Walk to School Day

As part of its Middle School Walk-Bike Program, the City of Coquitlam recently completed a new staircase with upgraded lighting along the Lincoln Ave. pathway. The need was identified during a ‘walkabout’ held with parents, faculty and others who participated in the program to help develop a more walkable environment for students attending the school.

Enhancements were made over the summer, and the celebration is to thank and welcome the community, and to encourage more sustainable commuting to the school.
Maple Creek is one of eight city schools participating in the Middle School Walk-Bike Program, and earlier this year they were named the region's most bike-friendly middle school by HUB, a cycling education and advocacy group.

Light refreshments will be served.
