COQUITLAM, BC, Oct. 25, 2017 – If you are looking at upgrading your home washing machine, Coquitlam residents have until Nov. 17, 2017 to qualify for a $100 rebate on select Energy Star® clothes washers.
As a Climate Action leader, the City is working to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reductions both at a corporate level, and for residents in the community. This partnership with BC Hydro supports the goal of creating an energy-efficient community while also reducing environmental impacts – all while returning funds back into residents’ pockets.
According to BC Hydro, appliances can account for up to 20 per cent of a household’s electricity use. Making smart energy choices can help customers save big on their energy bills. For example:
- By switching from hot to cold water, with an average of three loads per week, you could save up to $27 per year on your energy bill.
- Heating water accounts for 90 per cent of the energy consumption of washing machines. An ENERGY STAR front-loading machine can cut water use by nearly 40 per cent and electricity use up to 65 per cent compared to a conventional top loader.
To apply for your rebate, visit www.powersmart.ca/appliances to check the Product Eligibility Search Tool for qualifying models. Clothes washers must be purchased before Nov. 17, 2017, or before funding is exhausted.
