Water Conservation

Water conservation is important to everyone. Conserving water not only benefits our natural ecosystems but also helps residents save money. The City of Coquitlam provides residents with a variety of opportunities to conserve water through lawn sprinkling regulations, offering rain barrels and water wise kits at reasonable rates, and providing a Toilet Replacement Rebate Program.

Water Use Restrictions & Regulations

Lawn sprinkling and water use regulations are necessary to maintain water pressure to all customers. Water restrictions help reduce peak demands on the water distribution system, thus reducing operating costs and deferring construction of new water supply and transmission facilities.

Lawn Sprinkling Regulations are in effect June 1 - September 30

The new regulations proposed and advertised by Metro Vancouver have been adopted by the City of Coquitlam.  The new regulations are as follows:

EVEN numbered addresses:  Monday, Wednesday & Saturday

ODD numbered addresses:  Tuesday, Thursday & Sunday

Between the hours of: 4:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. (One hour of watering a week is sufficient to maintain a healthy lawn).

Residential, multi-family, commercial, industrial and institutional properties are all required to follow these regulations. The City has water restrictions to:

  • Help sustain water for present and future generations.
  • Accommodate for the region's inability to capture, store and distribute water because of the limited capacity of the City's watersheds.
  • Decrease operating costs and defer construction of new water supply and transmission facilities.
  • Help stabilize the increase in water consumption that takes place during the summer months.
  • Maintain consistent water pressure to customers.
