Bylaw No. 4061, 2009 the new Solid Waste Management Wildlife Amending Bylaw will not only aid in the reduction of the number of negative interactions between people and bears but will also support the ongoing work of the Bear Aware Coordinator and the City’s efforts in striving to become a Bear Smart community.

A Bylaw to amend City of Coquitlam Solid Waste Management Bylaw, No. 2512, 1992
Bylaw, No. 3768, 2006 focuses on areas in the City where there are regular bear interactions. Following calls about bears getting into garbage, residents may receive an “Official Notice" requiring that garbage be placed in secure cans with tight fitting lids. As well, residents will be required to store garbage either indoors or inside a secure enclosure between collection days.

This Bylaw regulates the construction and maintenance of boulevards by or on behalf of the owners of land fronting on them; outlines the requirement of the owner or occupier to remove snow, ice or rubbish from the sidewalks and foot paths; outlines the requirements of the owners to maintain private highways in a clean, fit and safe state.
