Burke Mountain Community Centre

The City is planning a new community centre on Burke Mountain to meet the needs of current and future residents of the neighbourhood, as well as residents across the community. The new community centre and adjacent Burke Village Park will offer sweeping views of the natural surrounding area.

What to Expect

Nestled into the scenic mountainside, the Burke Mountain Community Centre, previously called the Northeast Community Centre, will offer something for everyone—whether you're here to get active, learn something new or connect with others. This modern, light-filled facility will include:

  • A six-lane lap pool, warmer leisure pool with lazy river and two lanes, hot pool, steam room, sauna, climbing wall and drop slide
  • A double gymnasium for sports and active play
  • A fully equipped fitness centre with weigh room and studio space
  • Flexible, multi-purpose rooms for programs, meetings and events
  • A new branch of the Coquitlam Public Library, located inside the facility—the first co-located library branch in Coquitlam

Beside the community centre, Burke Village Park will include:

  • A splash pad with interactive ground jets
  • Open spaces with flexible seating options to gather and connect
  • An elevated, accessible pathway bringing visitors into the mountainside park
  • A dedicated Streamside Protection and Enhancement Area around the natural watercourses

The project is making major progress with the completion of detailed design — the stage where the look and feel of the building and park are refined and finalized. Early site work and construction will start in 2026, with the community centre and park expected to open in 2029.

The Burke Mountain neighbourhood in Northeast Coquitlam is expected to grow from its current population of more than 20,000 people, to about 50,000 in the next 25 years. Coquitlam’s Parks Recreation and Culture Master Plan identified the future need for a comprehensive multi-use community centre in the Burke Mountain Village  neighbourhood area.

Public consultation, strategic planning, best practices and other research have helped shape the vision for the community centre as an inclusive and accessible facility that will showcase the natural mountainside setting.
