12 p.m. – Aché Brasil
Aché Brasil is a touring performance group based in Vancouver, BC. Equal parts music, dance and acrobatics, they infuse the culture, traditions and music of Brazil in a spectacle of movement and color. Through music and dance, this high energy group educates and entertains audiences of all ages about Brazil’s cultural diversity. The musicians and dancers of Aché Brasil exhibit a rare combination of authenticity and excellence in their work, which is presently unmatched in North America.
12:30 p.m. – Canada Day Procession
Join Mayor and Council in celebrating Canada’s 149th birthday with a procession to the Plaza Stage. This exciting parade will begin at the Meadow Stage and wind its way through the event site.
1:55 p.m. – Colours of Dance Academy | Sponsored by Coquitlam College
The Colours Of Dance Academy is proud to promote the beauty of the art of Chinese dance in Canada. Established on September 1, 2002 and located in Richmond, BC, the Academy offers various levels of classes specializing in the diversity of Chinese dance. They strive to develop and maximize each student’s potential through the integration of modern teaching methods and professional standards. Academy students have participated and performed in various local and international events.
3 p.m. – Van Namsadang (Namsadang Cultural Institute) | Sponsored by AEBC
Founded in 2011, Van Namsadang has created more than 150 performances to introduce traditional Korean Music to the community and to share the culture through various festival and events. A traditional Korean Music performance includes Korean Drum, SaMulNori(Percussion Ensemble), Pan Gut (Standing Percussion), Dancing, Korean String(Korean Fiddle Solo), Korean Folk Song and Fusion Band(Ethnic Fusion Band).
3:25 p.m. – Heather Jolley Highland Dancers
The Heather Jolley Highland Dancers have been active in the Tri-City community for over 40 years. Over this time, we have taught dancers from ages 3 to adult, beginners to world champions. Learning to highland dance is an excellent form of exercise that builds stamina and provides a great cardio workout. Our goal is to provide a healthy environment for children to learn the basic technique of Scottish dancing, develop new friendships, and most of all to build confidence and self-esteem.
4:30 p.m. – Sounds of Global Ensemble
The Sounds Global Ensemble was formed by musicians from the Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra (VICO). Their repertoire ranges from good time '60's pop songs to instrumental and vocal stylings from cultures around the world. The Ensemble brings together musicians and composers from many cultural and artistic communities in the Lower Mainland, including Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese, Indian, Persian (Iranian) and Middle Eastern, Latin and South American, Vietnamese, African, North American and Europe.
6 p.m. – Alouest
Experience the francophone culture as Alouest takes you on a musical journey. The powerful vocal harmonies and a vast array of percussion instruments, Alouest will be sure to bring a style of music that will move you, from French folk to Celtic and beyond.
7:45 p.m. – The Pat Chessell Band
"A force to be reckoned with" is how, Canada's top Celtic publication, The Celtic Connection describes Pat Chessell. His passionate, smoky vocals are complemented by Celtic fuelled sounds that stretch into influences of roots, blues and country. An exciting live act at local festivals, Chessell has gained a loyal, growing fan base due to his stage presence and high energy.
