About the Spirit of Coquitlam Grant
The Spirit of Coquitlam grant supports not-for-profit, community-based organizations that are based-in and serving Coquitlam residents. The intent of the grant is to build community spirit by providing funds for public art, sport activities and programs, festivals and events, sport hosting, capital projects, and new initiatives that align with the City’s strategic goals.
The program is funded from revenue received through the Province of BC’s Host Financial Assistance Agreement, benefiting local governments that host casinos or community gaming centres.
Since 2002, the City of Coquitlam has awarded more than $10 million grants to 275 different community organizations through the Spirit of Coquitlam Grant program.
Application Intake Periods
The Spirit of Coquitlam Grant is offered twice a year, with a spring and fall intake period. Each intake period runs for roughly four weeks.

Spring Intake - February
Fall Intake - September
- Online application forms are opened on the City’s website at 8 a.m.
- Staff are available to work with organizations on their application
- Intake period closes at 11:59 p.m.
- Late and/or incomplete submissions are not accepted
Spring Intake - March to May
Fall Intake - October to November
- Grant Coordinators work with applicants to review their projects and gather any additional information required
- Once applications are processed, an Interdepartmental Review Panel is held, where the applications and funding recommendations are assessed
- Staff finalize the funding recommendations for Council
Spring Intake - June
Fall Intake - December
- Council receives a report from staff with the recommended funding plan for the intake’s applications
- Following deliberation, Council endorses the final funding plan for the intake’s applicants
Spring Intake - July
Fall Intake - December
- Applicants that have been approved for funding receive an email with instructions on how to receive their funds, as well as information on final report requirements
- Applicants that have not been approved for funding receive an email / phone call that explains why their application was declined and staff provide them with information on how to address any application issues in future intakes
Spring 2026 Application Period
This intake period is now closed. Thank you to all who expressed interest in this intake. Staff will contact all applicants with the results of the intake by the end of June.
Fall 2026 Application Period
This intake period will open on Tuesday, September 1 at 8 a.m. and will close on Monday, September 29 at 11:59 p.m.

About this Grant:
This funding stream is open for both the spring and fall intake periods.
This stream provides funding to purchase goods, equipment or infrastructure in support of programming (excluding sports equipment).

This stream is for projects that don’t fit into any other category but provides a tangible benefit to Coquitlam residents. Priority is given to one-time programs and projects or those that demonstrate a reduced reliance on City funding in following years.

This stream is open for any festivals and events that are held in Coquitlam and are open to the public. Your event can charge entry fees, but only to recover costs of the festival/event – fundraisers are not eligible for funding under this stream.

This funding stream is for the spring intake period only.
This stream provides funding in association with the Province of British Columbia’s Playground Equipment Program (PEP). Applications for this stream must be representatives from a registered Parent Advisory Council (PAC) and must have support from School District 43 as a priority for the PEP program and have been declined funding by the Province.
About this Grant:
This funding stream is open for both the spring and fall intake periods.
This stream provides funding to assist local sporting groups with hosting competitive tournaments or events at a City of Coquitlam venue or facility that will bring in participants from outside the Tri-Cities region. All tournaments require a letter of support from a recognized sport governing body.
Local tournaments, fundraising tournaments, operational costs, and bidding costs are not eligible for funding through this stream.

This stream provides funding to increase participation in sports and provide unique sporting opportunities to Coquitlam residents.
Eligible purchases in this category are for additional equipment that improves access to sport or will increase participation – this does not include replacing existing/aging equipment or for regular operating expenses.
