Background
Coquitlam’s Town Centre Park spans 42 hectares (103 acres) and serves as a gathering space for both local residents and visitors from across the Tri-Cities and Metro Vancouver region. Developed from a former gravel pit in the 1990s, the park has evolved into a premier destination urban green space.
As the City continues to grow, and with the opening of the Millennium Line Evergreen Extension in 2017, renewing the vision and development plan for the park was an important step to ensure the park continues to serve the community in the best way possible.
Master Plan Overview
Adopted in 2018 and developed through extensive community consultation, the Town Centre Park Master Plan (PDF) provides a comprehensive, long-term framework for the park’s development over the next 15 to 20 years. It aims to enhance the park's capacity to serve the growing community while preserving its natural beauty and accessibility. The plan is guided by four key principles:
- Place of Destination: Creating a premier urban park that attracts visitors.
- Place of Connection: Fostering community engagement and connectivity.
- Place of Evolution: Adapting to changing needs and opportunities.
- Place of Celebration: Providing spaces for events and cultural activities.
Applying the Plan
As the City continues to grow and evolve, the planned upgrades must be flexible and adapt to new opportunities and challenges. Park improvements have been categorized into three time frames for implementation:
- Short-term Projects (2018 to 2022)
- Medium-term Projects (2023 to 2028)
- Long-term Projects (2028 to 2037)
