[ARCHIVED] Enjoy Arts, Culture and More at Coquitlam’s Kaleidoscope Arts Festival this Weekend

2022 Kaleidoscope branding

COQUITLAM, B.C., Aug. 16, 2022 – Live music from award-winning musicians, captivating dance performances, Indigenous and cultural education opportunities, and more are just days away at this weekend’s Kaleidoscope Arts Festival in Coquitlam.

Coquitlam’s seventh annual Kaleidoscope Arts Festival—the Tri-Cities ultimate celebration of arts and culture—returns for in-person performances and immersive arts activities at three locations Aug. 19 to 21.

Immerse Yourself in the Arts

This year’s Kaleidoscope Arts Festival will provide people of all ages a fun and interactive arts and culture experience.

Drop by for free performances and activities, including:

  • Carmanah and Dan Mangan take the TD Community Plaza stage in Town Centre Park (Friday, Aug. 19, 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.);
  • Aeriosa Dance Society performs a breathtaking aerial routine from a grove of Douglas fir trees at Blue Mountain Park (Saturday, Aug. 20);
  • Musical performances from Ugandan-Canadian singer-songwriter, Yvonne Kushe and a site-specific contemporary dance piece by Ballet B.C. dancer, Livona Ellis. Place des Arts and the Art Gallery at Evergreen will offer fun art activities for the family and Still Moon Arts Society will offer a Lantern Installation Workshop (Saturday, Aug. 20); and
  • A series of performances and workshops including puppet making, hip-hop dance, Métis Jigging dance and a musical performance from Ana Bon-Bon, mixing blues, country and show tunes. Coquitlam Public Library will be on site with the Library Link and family story time (Sunday, Aug. 21).

As Coquitlam moves forward in its Reconciliation journey, we invite our community to learn more by joining ethnobotanist Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and artist T’uy’t’tanat Cease Wyss for an interactive plant walk in Blue Mountain Park on Saturday, Aug. 20. X̱aayda (Haida), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) First Nations storyteller, Kung Jaadee, and Blackfoot Nation musician, Shawn Bullshields, will share their traditions and art in Victoria Park on Sunday, Aug. 21.
