[ARCHIVED] Stay and Play in Coquitlam this Holiday Season

COQUITLAM, B.C., Dec. 8, 2022 – Coquitlam residents can stay and play close to home in December with fun, festive activities for all ages.

Stay and Play Holiday Activities

  • Festive Family Fun – Make new holiday traditions and memories with your family. Come to the new Maillardville Community Centre (1200 Cartier Ave.) for a Holiday Family Fun Night on Thursday, Dec. 22 from 4 – 7 p.m. All ages can enjoy a wide variety of festive activities such as face painting, crafts, cookie decorating, active play in the gymnasium, and even caroling!
  • Kids and Youth Activities – Special holiday programs and interactive workshops for children and youth are running throughout the month. Programs for kids include holiday editions of year-round favourites, such as Ballet, Crafts and Creations, Little Carpenters, Little Creators and more. Youth can look forward to Cooking Classes, Poirier Holiday Hangout and Maillardville Youth Holiday Night. Save the date for the Youth Holiday Dinner on Dec. 16 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Pinetree Community Centre, complete with food, fun and friends.
  • Winter Break Camps – There are still some spaces available in Winter Break Camps. Check out camps for kids 5 – 7 yrs and 7 – 10 yrs at Maillardville and Poirier Community Centres, and camps for youth 11 – 14 yrs at Pinetree and Poirier Community Centres.
  • Adult Activities – Dogwood and Glen Pine Pavilions have some great ways to get into the festive spirit with holiday painting, movies, luncheons and even a holiday variety show. You can also learn something new before the year is over, like chess, or get tips on how to use your computer, tablet and smartphone.

All Ages Drop-in Activities

Swim, skate, play and stay active this winter! Join in the fun on ice with a Holiday Sweater Skate, Boxing Day Skate, New Year’s Eve Skate and more.

Coquitlam’s recreation facilities will be open over the December break. Operating hours are different than usual, so view the drop-in schedules at www.coquitlam.ca/dropin. Schedules are subject to change without notice, so please call the recreation facility ahead of time if you have questions.

Financial Assistance Available for Recreation

It is now easier than ever to access financial support for Coquitlam’s recreation services. The City has relaunched a more user-friendly Financial Assistance for Recreation program—formerly known as Get Connected, Get Active—with easier sign-up and income verification, plus more flexibility than ever. Each year, qualifying Coquitlam residents will receive 50 free drop-in visits plus a $225 credit they can use for an expanded range of admissions, passes, programs, lessons, exam fees, supplies, equipment rentals and more.
