COQUITLAM, B.C., Dec. 16, 2022 – Coquitlam is fortunate to have a diverse and vibrant community. The City remains committed to championing equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) to build a welcoming community for all. With this commitment, comes a responsibility to condemn hateful acts when they arise in our community. There is absolutely no place for hate in Coquitlam.
We all play a role in fostering a sense of belonging and ensuring the safety of everyone who calls Coquitlam home, or visits our community. Hateful acts are abhorrent and unacceptable. If ignored, these acts can become pervasive within a society. And we know that they disproportionately impact equity-deserving groups, such as racialized people and members of the LGBTQ2S+ community. Their lived-experiences reinforce the importance of continuing to taking a stance against hate.
We urge everyone, including organizations, businesses and individuals in the community, to join the City of Coquitlam in our commitment to enhancing inclusivity and belonging, and to condemn all forms of hate, racism and prejudice.
