[ARCHIVED] Now is the Time to Get Winter Wise

Winter Wise News Flash

COQUITLAM, B.C., Nov. 9, 2020 – With cold temperatures and our first snowfall in the forecast, now is the time to make sure you are Winter Wise in Coquitlam.

Coquitlam crews have been out all weekend distributing brine to Coquitlam’s main routes and areas known to have issues during snow events, and plow and sander crews are ready to go this afternoon as soon as inclement weather dictates.

Parking Restrictions During Snow Events
Coquitlam has implemented a number of different parking restrictions in recent years to help City crews to plow streets clear of snow and ice in order to make the streets safer for winter driving. Parking restrictions are effective November 1 to March 15, 2021.

  • Some of these restrictions prohibit all on-street parking during the entire season.
  • In other areas, on-street parking bans are on one side of the street. The side of the street where parking bans apply will have “No Parking When Declared” signs.

Coquitlam residents and drivers are asked to follow all posted parking restrictions. In addition to allowing our crews to make our streets safer, this will prevent drivers from having to dig out their vehicle, and avoid a ticket or towing.

All landlords with secondary suites are also reminded that they need to ensure they have a driveway or space on their private property available for tenants to park their vehicles off the street when these on-street parking bans are activated.

City Bylaw Enforcement staff will be actively monitoring on-street parking during the parking ban to ensure compliance and allow the crews to work to make our roads safe.

A map showing all areas affected by seasonal parking restrictions is available at www.coquitlam.ca/winterwise under the Parking Restrictions tab.

How to Know When the Parking Ban is in Effect
The City will advise when the parking ban has been activated in the following ways:

  • Public Service Advisories to social media
  • By email - we encourage all residents to sign up for the Winter Parking Restrictions email list using NotifyMe at www.coquitlam.ca/notifyme

Report an Area of Concern During a Snow Event

To report hazardous roads and sidewalks to the City, please use our real-time Coquitlam Snow Response Request tool at www.coquitlam.ca/winterwise

Based on Geographic Information System (GIS) technology, the tool allows users to provide details and optional contact information, and even submit an image. The requests are transmitted in real time. Note that while snow is falling or until the primary roads are cleared, the City will not address local roads or lanes.
