[ARCHIVED] Head Outdoors for Registered Recreation Programs

Outdoor Recreation

COQUITLAM, B.C., Mar. 3, 2021 – With spring around the corner, Coquitlam is offering registered recreation programs this month online and in local parks, fields and trails.

Now open for registration, the outdoor programs complement the City’s safe indoor recreation offerings, providing people of all ages opportunities to have fun, get fit and enjoy the camaraderie of a registered session in an outdoor setting.

Watch for New Outdoor Offerings

Coquitlam will add new outdoor recreation programs over the weeks and months to come, including more preschool programs at the Mundy Park fieldhouse, Zoom hiking presentations, all-day summer camps, Baby-and-Me hikes, Eco Trekker parent-tot hikes, yoga, boot camps and more.

Outdoor fitness classes for adults will take place in spaces around the community that provide access to washrooms and in some cases, covered areas.

Watch www.coquitlam.ca/outdoors over the spring and summer for information, or monitor the current Outdoor Recreation category listed under the various age groups on the City’s recreation registration site at www.coquitlam.ca/registration. Participants are advised to dress for the weather.

Recreation Programming Supports Community Health and Wellness

Health officials continue to recommend fresh air and exercise to support physical and mental health.

Like the City’s indoor programs, all outdoor sessions have been designed to meet the current health protocols, with physical distancing, handwashing or sanitizing, minimized shared touchpoints, limited class sizes and other measures.

Other Options for Outdoor Fun

With more than 90 kilometres of trails and 3,400 acres of parks and green spaces, Coquitlam offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors safely and responsibly. Find a park near you at www.coquitlam.ca/parkfinder or learn about Coquitlam’s extensive trail system at www.coquitlam.ca/trails.

For a variety of free activities to enjoy in backyards or around the city, check out the Outdoor Activities section on the CoquitlamSPIRIT webpage at www.coquitlam.ca/spirit
