[ARCHIVED] Coquitlam Proud to Provide Civic Facilities for Vaccination Clinics

News Flash

COQUITLAM, B.C., Mar. 21, 2021 –The City of Coquitlam is proud to support the COVID-19 BC Immunization Plan, and can now confirm that two civic facilities have been selected as a vaccination facility to be operated by Fraser Health.

The City has entered into a formal licence agreement with Fraser Health to provide the Poirier Forum and Centennial Pavilion as a combined mass vaccination facility from March 15 to Nov. 30, 2021. These facilities are expected to be used in Phases 3 and 4 of the province-wide Immunization Plan, and both the indoor spaces and adjacent parking areas will be used in support of the vaccination clinic.

City Acknowledges Cooperation of Sports User Groups and Other Facility Users

In making these facilities available to Fraser Health, the City acknowledges the cooperation of the sports user groups and City program participants who have either accommodated alternative arrangements or foregone their usual space allocations at the Poirier Forum and Centennial Pavilion.

Community support of the BC Immunization Plan is critical to the province’s response to and recovery from COVID-19, and immunity in our community.

Next Steps

As the Province rolls out the largest immunization program in B.C.’s history, the City of Coquitlam will continue working with Fraser Health to ensure the civic facilities are ready for the anticipated April 1 launch of Phase 3 of the BC Immunization Plan.

Other supporting work being undertaken by the City includes wayfinding signage on adjacent civic facilities and sharing related provincial and Fraser Health information through the City’s communications channels.

City staff will also continue to work with sports user groups and other facility users to minimize the impacts of taking these facilities offline for up to eight months.

Community members are reminded that the vaccination clinics will be operated by Fraser Health and any questions related to the COVID-19 vaccine, appointment booking or BC’s Immunization Plan should be directed to the following contacts:

About the Poirier Forum and Centennial Pavilion

The Poirier Forum is an accessible, 25,000-square-foot facility located in southwest Coquitlam at 618 Poirier St., across from the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex. Considered a covered outdoor facility, this venue is typically used for sports such as lacrosse, ball hockey and inline skating. It has also hosted community events, such as craft markets.

Located at 620 Poirier St., the adjacent Centennial Pavilion facility is a 4,000-square-foot multi-purpose building that in recent months has been the site of many of the City’s group fitness classes.
