[ARCHIVED] Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex to Undergo Maintenance

Exterior of PSLC

COQUITLAM, B.C., May 11, 2021 – Coquitlam’s Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex (633 Poirier St.) will undergo its annual maintenance closure from Monday, May 31 to Sunday, June 27, reopening Monday, June 28.

The arenas will stay open during this time period – arena one and two for dry floor activities, and arena three for ice skating activities.

The fitness centre at PSLC will be closed Monday, May 31 to June 6 inclusively, reopening for pre-registered use Monday, June 7.

Maintenance Vital for Daily Public Use

The pool is open to the public every day and the systems run continuously, so the four-week closure is necessary for maintenance and cleaning that cannot be completed while the facility is open. The closure ensures a safe environment for staff and the public, reduces the likelihood of equipment failures and extends the life of City assets.

Annual tasks typically include:

  • Draining the pools and deep-cleaning the tanks;
  • Deep cleaning the fitness centres and equipment, lockers, changerooms, showers, lifejackets and pool toys;
  • Regrouting tiles and touching up paint; and
  • Inspecting and servicing mechanical systems and other equipment.

Alternative Options Available

Patrons can still swim in Coquitlam at City Centre Aquatic Complex (1210 Pinetree Way), Eagle Ridge Outdoor Pool (2689 Guildford Way) and Spani Outdoor Pool (655 Hillcrest Street).

The fitness centre at the Innovation Centre (1207 Pinetree Way) will be open for pre-registered drop-in.

Fitness and pool registration can be found at www.coquitlam.ca/registration. Click Register for Programs and in the Drop In section, click Fitness or Swimming to view locations, dates and times, or call 604-927-4386.

Keeping You Safe

Coquitlam’s recreation programs and services are continually adapting to meet the requirements of updated Public Health Orders and we appreciate your patience, as we may need to make last minute changes.

Safety protocols are in place at all City facilities to ensure the safety of program participants and staff. In compliance with the Provincial Mask Mandate Order, masks are required at all times, including when exercising. Mask is to be removed just before entering the pool and put on immediately after getting out of the pool.

If programs are cancelled due to Provincial Health Orders, customers will receive an account credit, or you can request a refund on your original method of payment. Please call 604-927-4386 for assistance.
