[ARCHIVED] Watch for New Streamlined Curbside Collection Calendar

COQUITLAM, B.C., June 16, 2020 – A new streamlined version of Coquitlam’s curbside collection calendar will hit local mailboxes this week.

With an eye to improving ease-of-use, the City has introduced a four-page brochure this year that consolidates the key collection details for July 2020 to June 2021 and works hand-in-hand with online tools on the Coquitlam’s website and curbside collection app.

The City has maintained its usual collection schedule throughout the pandemic, and has made no changes to the zone boundaries or collection order for the coming year.

Calendar Update Based on Feedback

The new calendar is also available for download at www.coquitlam.ca/recollect and will be mailed to all single-family homes before the new schedule takes effect in July.

Based on public feedback, the annual calendar mailout was redesigned to be easier to interpret and to focus on the information requested most by residents who receive City collection services. The new version also saves on paper and ink, so is more environmentally friendly.

The content includes:

  • Two maps and calendars showing the weekly collection of recycling and green carts and the biweekly collection of garbage carts in the four zones;
  • Details about large item pick-up (www.coquitlam.ca/lipu) and seasonal unlimited yard trimmings collection (www.coquitlam.ca/suyt);
  • Information about online waste resources such as the Coquitlam Curbside Collection app and Waste Wizard (see below); and
  • Calendar instructions, key contacts and related regulations.

Click for Collection and Disposal Information

Coquitlam residents wishing to move away from the paper format are encouraged to use the City’s free online resources, already in use by two-thirds of households receiving Coquitlam collection services.

Go to www.coquitlam.ca/recollect to:

  • Download personalized collection schedules or add them to iCal, Outlook or Google calendars;
  • Set up text, email or Twitter alerts for your collection day – particularly handy when the calendar shifts following statutory holidays;
  • Use the online Waste Wizard to separate and dispose of waste properly;
  • Report illegal dumping; and
  • Download the free Coquitlam Curbside Collection app to perform all of these functions on Android and Apple devices (you can also search “Coquitlam Curbside Collection” in your app store).

Both the website and app’s collection calendars are already updated to 2021.

Visit www.coquitlam.ca/trashtalk for more information about Coquitlam’s waste collection services, including green carts, curbside recycling and the large item pick-up program. Multi-family complexes, which pay for and manage their own waste services, should contact their property manager or strata for collection information.

Town Centre Recycling Depot Reopens

Closed in March for public health reasons, the Town Centre Recycling Depot is scheduled to reopen June 17 as part of the City’s phased reopening framework (see www.coquitlam.ca/covid19 for details).

The depot will operate its usual hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Wednesday to Sunday, with restrictions in place to ensure physical distancing and the safety of the public and staff. Go to www.coquitlam.ca/recycling for more information about the modified service.

The Coquitlam Transfer Station at 1200 United Blvd. is also open for free drop-off of recycling and yard trimmings.

In addition, Coquitlam’s unlimited yard trimmings collection continues until June 25. More information at www.coquitlam.ca/yardtrimmings.
