[ARCHIVED] Join in Coquitlam’s Online Canada Day Event at Home

COQUITLAM, B.C., June 16, 2020 – Join in the fun at home July 1 as Coquitlam presents its annual Canada Day celebrations online with live music, dance, interactive activities and more.

Kicking off with a welcome parade, the 12th annual Coquitlam Celebrates Canada Day will be broadcast at www.coquitlam.ca/canadaday from noon to 7 p.m. with many of the much-loved aspects of the celebrations traditionally held at Town Centre Park.

Viewers can sing O Canada with local musician Dani Black, learn to juggle, be amazed by illusionist Vitaly, take part in crafts and other activities, be entertained by children’s performer Will’s Jams, multicultural dancing and the music of Silk & Skins, Speed Control and The Heels.

An Afternoon of Fun and Entertainment

Coquitlam reformatted its popular summertime events this year to allow the community to have fun, connect and celebrate safely. Canada Day viewers will be encouraged to gather with their household or watch virtually with friends and family within their bubble, and to support Coquitlam businesses by enjoying some takeout or purchasing their party supplies and food locally.

A full schedule will be posted at www.coquitlam.ca/canadaday prior to the event. Featuring a mix of live and pre-recorded segments, the broadcast will go live at noon July 1 and remain online until the evening of July 5.

The online fun will kick off with a welcome parade, remarks by Mayor Richard Stewart and MP Ron McKinnon, and O Canada sung by Dani Black. A packed schedule will follow, with workshops by Maple Leaf Circus along with family activities and demos by City departments, artisans and local organizations sprinkled between the music and dance performances. The entertainment schedule includes:

  • 12:15 p.m.: Will’s Jams – Children’s music
  • 1:15 p.m. Heather Jolley Highland Dancers – Scottish dancing
  • 2 p.m.: Vitaly – Illusion and magic
  • 3 p.m.: Silk & Skins – Pan-Asian musical collaboration
