Intro to Competitive Swimming

Hyack Swim Academy

We’ve partnered with the Hyack Swim Academy to offer an Introduction to Competitive Swimming. In level one, children develop the fundamental skills needed to learn to swim. Stage two focuses on basic movements needed for swimming strokes, such as arm action, sculling and breathing. And stage three focuses on improving the rhythm of strokes while increasing endurance.

If you’re unsure what level to register your child in, please contact City Centre Aquatic Complex and staff will perform an assessment. Click the link below to view all the course offerings.

First Day Reminders

Skating and Swimming

We’ve compiled a list of some reminders to help make the first day a success.

  1. Arrive early – 15 minutes in advance for swimming lessons, and 30 minutes in advance for skating lessons.
  2. Bring the report card – Remember to bring the old report from previous lessons. This will help the instructor evaluate and build on the participants’ abilities to create success.
  3. Learn the instructors name and class meeting spot
  4. Bring proper attire – Bathing suit and towel for swimming lessons (optional: swimming goggles and swim cap); helmet, waterproof pants, a warm jacket, and gloves or mittens for skating lessons (optional: knee and elbow pads under the clothing).
  5. Did you know? Helmet rentals are free for all skating lessons. Skate rentals are available for rent, and we recommend purchasing a pack of 10 prior to the lesson start date. Skate sharpening is not available on the first day of lessons but is available at the skate shop during public programming.

Skating and Swimming Lessons

Skating and swimming lessons are available for all ages but remember, only register for one set of lessons at a time. You may register for the next set of lessons on the last day of the current set.

Please note, you will be withdrawn from the later programs if you are registered in more than one set of lessons at a time.
