National AccessAbility Week 

May 28 to June 3 

Coquitlam will be hosting over 30 free activities in support of National AccessAbility Week May 28 to June 3.

Save the date for Coquitlam’s first annual AccessAbility Resources Fair on June 1 from 4 – 6 p.m. at Maillardville Community Centre (1200 Cartier Ave.). Learn about programs and services that are helping everyone thrive in our community from local groups and support agencies, the City’s Equity Diversity and Inclusion program and the Universal AccessAbility Advisory Committee.

Other activities taking place throughout the week include Wheelchair Lacrosse Try-it, Zumba Sentao®, Pickleball for Newcomers (instructed in Farsi), Tours of Dogwood Pavilion (offered in Mandarin, Spanish and American Sign Language) and more.

Swimming and Water Play Options 

Spray Parks Now Open 

As the weather warms up, there are many ways to cool down in Coquitlam including free access to ten spray parks (now open!), $2 swims at Eagle Ridge Pool (open June 3), Blue Mountain Wading Pool (open June 17), fun pop-up park events and more resident access to Coquitlam’s Bettie Allard YMCA.

City Centre Aquatic Complex will offer a robust schedule of drop-in swimming, aquafit and swimming lessons, as usual, throughout the summer season. Plus, the annual maintenance closure of the pool at Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex is rescheduled to the fall to ensure a full schedule of drop-in swimming, aquafit and swimming lessons throughout the summer while we renovate and expand Spani Pool.

New Plaza Coming Soon 

Maillardville Community Centre 

Coquitlam continues to invest in the Maillardville Community Centre with final design and approval to start building a new outdoor plaza.

Construction is expected to begin in summer 2023 and will be complete by later in the year. When complete, the 0.18 hectare (0.44 acre) plaza will provide flexible outdoor space and much-needed gathering space in the heart of the Maillardville neighbourhood, while also serving to complement the indoor activities at the Community Centre.

Celebrate Seniors Week 

June 4 to 10 

Coquitlam is gearing up for Seniors Week, June 4 to 10, with a variety of activities and events to celebrate residents who are 50 and better! This year’s Seniors Week is proudly presented by Aspira Retirement Living (Astoria and Mayfair Terrace).

Activities during the week include the Meeting of the Melodies kickoff event; drop-in sports and fitness activities including chair yoga, Essentrics, Fit 360, pickleball, Pilates, skating, swimming and more; brain games, sports and informational presentations on navigating your retirement journey with Aspira; tea, tour and textile crafting at the Evergreen Cultural Centre; and much more.

World Bee Day May 20 

Coquitlam in Bloom 

Join Coquitlam’s Park Spark team at the Inspiration Garden in Town Centre Park for World Bee Day on May 20. There will be opportunities to get involved, gain knowledge and BEE inspired. Participate in a Pollinator Power workshop 11:15 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 3:15 – 4 p.m. and a Hanging Basket workshop from 2 – 2:45 p.m. For more info and to register, email parkspark@coquitlam.ca.

Walking Soccer Drop-ins Available 

Spotlight on Sport 

Come to the North Field in Town Centre Park for Walking Soccer anytime between dawn until 10 p.m. until Aug. 17. This non-competitive, self-refereed version of soccer where players walk instead of run and play with smaller nets and field space is perfect for people of all ages who want to try out the sport and get some extra practice time. No pre-registration is required.
