1. What are the benefits of registering your block party?

Once you complete the application and your block party is approved, you will:

• Be eligible to apply for the $150 Block Party Grant.
• Receive free Special Event Liability insurance for your block party.

2. What are the application requirements?

Below are a few requirements you will need to know before you complete your Block Party Application:

• A Block Party Application must be submitted a minimum 10 business days prior to the day of the block party and include:
  • An established safety plan that adheres to all of the Provincial Health Officer’s orders, notices and guidelines.
  • The names of two supportive neighbours.
  • The signed Block Party Agreement
  • An invitation to a maximum of 30 people.

3. Are there block party guidelines?

Yes! You must follow these guidelines when planning your block party.

• Block parties must take place outdoors on private property in Coquitlam.
• You must establish a safety plan that adheres to all of the Provincial Health Officer’s orders, notices and guidelines to ensure appropriate physical distancing during your block party.
• Fireworks are not permitted unless you obtain a permit from Coquitlam Fire & Rescue.
• All recyclables and garbage must be properly disposed of at the end of the event.
• Any outdoor amplified sound (music played through speakers) must end by 10 p.m. 
• The primary purpose of a block party must be for the enjoyment and benefit of the surrounding neighborhood in order to be eligible for the Block Party Grant.
  • For example, garage sales and birthday parties are not eligible for the grant.

4. Can I receive funding for my block party?

Yes! The City is offering a $150 grant to approved block party organizers. We recommend using the grant towards supporting local businesses. The grant funds may be used for food and equipment; however, it cannot be used towards the purchase of alcohol. Coquitlam households are eligible for one block party grant per year. 

Grant funds will be awarded based on the following:

• The block party establishes a safety plan that adheres to all of the Provincial Heath Officers orders, notices and guidelines to ensure appropriate physical distancing.  
• An approved block party application.
• The primary purpose of the block party is for the enjoyment and benefit of the surrounding neighborhood.
• A submitted Block Party Evaluation, no later than two weeks following the block party.
• An emailed photo of the block party.

The City reserves the right to refuse the Block Party Grant to block parties that:

• Do not adhere to the Provincial Heath Officers orders, notices and guidelines.
• Do not meet the Block Party Guidelines.
• Receive neighbour complaints.
• Do not comply with the intent of the Block Party Program.
