Construction Begins on Victoria Park

by Colleen Smith |

COQUITLAM, BC, June 16, 2016 – The redevelopment of Victoria Park will soon start taking shape as construction gets underway the week of June 20.

  • The redeveloped Victoria Park will include a picnic area, playground, sport court, skate spot, and improved multi-use grass playing field. The City has adopted a phased approach to the park’s redevelopment with park elements scheduled for completion as follows:
Late fall 2016 – playground, sport court and skate spot; and
  • Spring 2017 – grass playing field.

The adjacent multi-use path and parking lot on Soball Street are planned for completion in 2017.

During the Victoria Park construction, area residents are encouraged to use the neighbouring Leigh Park, which officially opened on June 15, 2016. The newly redeveloped Leigh Park offers a picnic area with open lawn spaces, an off-road cycling skills course, a designated dog off-leash area for both large and small dogs, and walking trails.

The City will be working closely with Leigh Elementary School, Victoria Hall, and the Tri-City Family Place to ensure minimal disruption to their operations during the Victoria Park construction.

The redevelopment of Victoria Park supports the City's strategic goal of increasing active participation and creativity and has been allocated a capital budget of $1.95 million.
